Hi,
When I first started running, I felt like a fraud.
I was slow. Overweight. Out of breath before I hit the end of the street. And every time I saw a "real" runner glide past me - lean, fast, confident - I felt like I didn’t belong.
I’d tell myself things
like:
“You don’t look like a runner.”
“You’re too slow.”
“Everyone’s staring at you.”
I nearly gave up before I’d even begun!
But here’s what changed everything:
I realised there was no official checklist.
No pace you had to hit. No size you had to be.
No permission slip required.
If you’re out there, moving your body and giving it a go — you’re a
runner.
And you belong here.
That belief is exactly why I created Runners Gateway - a gentle, welcoming space for those of us who’ve never quite fit the typical fitness mould.
Whether you’re walking 5 minutes or working your way up to 5K, this community was built with you in mind.
We’ve got a free community filled with people who get it.
No judgement. No competition. Just encouragement,
support, and stories from others finding their own rhythm.
You don’t have to do this alone.
If you’ve been waiting for a sign that it’s okay to start (or to start again) this is it!
Come join us if you haven’t already:

This week across Runners Gateway, we’re sharing stories, short videos, and gentle reminders that running is for everyone.
Especially those who’ve been made to feel like it isn’t.
One last thing:
You NEVER have to earn your place in this community.
You’re already in. Exactly as you are.
See you out there,
Gary
