Hi,
Something that's come up quite a lot for me lately is the topic of motivation, discipline, and habits. So I thought that this week we could have a little chat about that!
Most people think motivation is the key to getting fit. And to be fair, it is helpful at the start.
It’s
that spark that gets you to lace up your shoes for the first time, download that Couch to 5K app, or join a group like Runners Gateway.
Because something in your gut says, “It’s time.”
But here’s the truth: motivation never sticks around.
One bad night’s sleep, a stressful workday, or a cold morning, and suddenly, it’s nowhere to be found.
That’s where discipline steps in.
Discipline
isn’t about being harsh or forcing yourself to do things. It’s just the quiet voice that says, “I’ll show up anyway.”
Even when you’re tired.
Even when you don’t feel like it.
The magic, though, comes when you build habits.
Because discipline takes effort. Habits make it easier. They turn effort into rhythm.
At first, you need motivation to take the first step.
Then, you need discipline to
take the next hundred.
And if you stick with it long enough, you’ll build habits that carry you when both motivation and discipline are nowhere to be seen.
Real-life example?
Let’s say you decide to walk every morning after your coffee. The first few days take motivation.
The second week takes discipline.
By week three or four, it’s just “what you do” - no battle required.
And that’s how change
happens.
Here’s your gentle reminder for the week:
You don’t need to feel motivated every day.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to keep showing up... imperfectly, consistently, kindly.
Let discipline help you keep going.
Let habits make it feel easier.
And trust that motivation WILL swing back around.
You’ve got this.
See you out
there!
